After almost two years without an in-person meeting, the Park Oaks Neighborhood Association in Citrus Heights is set to hold their first meeting Thursday, February 17.
The meeting is slated for 7 p.m. at Advent Lutheran Church on San Juan Avenue, according to an announcement released by past president Tom Scheeler. The previous president, Nancy Methvin, passed away late last year and the association is looking for new leadership.
“Obviously, Covid has greatly disrupted our lives overall as well as all the Citrus Heights (neighborhood associations), some of which have “gone dark” due to illness or disinterest from their officers,” Scheeler said. “While having been quiet for most the last 2 years, we are still committed to reviving the organization.”
Scheeler is asking anyone who lives in Area 5 to consider filling an open position. The positions currently vacant with the association are president, vice president, secretary, and a director.
Citrus Heights has 11 neighborhood associations that are coordinated through the Residents’ Empowerment Association Citrus Heights (REACH). Areas one and two are not currently active while area nine merged with areas seven and eight in April of 2021.
Each of the city’s neighborhood associations holds monthly meetings to discuss topics affecting their areas, and often invite speakers from the city. The groups also seek to organize neighborhood projects each year to improve their areas.
By design, membership in the various neighborhood areas includes every resident, property owner, and business owner in the area. Anyone over the age of 18 who works in the area is also a member, and there are no dues for membership.
Those interested in learning more about participating in their local neighborhood association can find more information on the city’s webpage: www.citrusheights.net/450/Neighborhood-Associations.
