Sentinel staff report–
With news of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine fresh in the minds of local council members on Thursday, Citrus Heights Vice Mayor Tim Schaefer and Councilman Bret Daniels both offered brief comments during a Feb. 24 City Council meeting.
“Thoughts and prayers with the people of Ukraine and Russia,” said Daniels. “What we’re seeing is horrible, and both sides are suffering in one way or another.”
Daniels and Schaefer both noted that Citrus Heights and the surrounding area is home to many immigrants who have family and ties to Ukraine and Russia. Schaefer said he’s hopeful “that this thing can get turned around at some point, rather than them becoming part of Russia again.”
Comments were made during an opening portion of Thursday’s council meeting where council members share updates and comments about items not on the agenda. The meeting continued with discussion about redistricting, zoning code changes and other items.
