In a return to normalcy in Citrus Heights, Northridge Little League players and parents took the field Saturday amid cheers and a parade for the first full season since pandemic restricted large gatherings.
Hundreds of parents and players gathered at Brooktree Park’s ball fields for the March 12 opening ceremony. Little League Manager Jon Kliewer introduced each team and thanked volunteers for their work in keeping the fields maintained and organizing the events.
“It’s great to be back out here, great to do it for the kids,” Kliewer said in an interview with The Sentinel at the game.
The league held limited seasons for 2020 and 2021, Kliewer said, with no official teams playing.
In addition to Brooktree Park, Northridge holds games in Citrus Heights and Carmichael. The league covers an area South of Greenback Lane that includes Sunrise mall and extends into Carmichael and Fair oaks.
The league’s championship banners go back to 1970, according to the local little league’s website.
