Tim Newey, organizer for the Highway 40 Car and Bike show, told The Sentinel by phone Wednesday the event coincides with the opening of his new business, Classic Reg Service. Newey stopped short of calling the event a grand opening, citing delays with licensing from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Newey runs the business with his wife, Marleen, and partner John Cano. They have been in the process of opening their business for about six months, he said.

He hopes to attract about 100 vehicles to the event with room for about 150 in his section of the parking lot. The upcoming show has been advertised by the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce as well as promoted to readers of Newey’s NorCal Car Culture newsletter.

There is no entry fee, and organizers are encouraging all types of vehicle owners to bring their classics, hot rods, motorcycles, foreign and custom vehicles. Vehicles made in any model year are welcome, he said.

Other business owners in the Grand Oaks Plaza are on board to provide hot dogs and BBQ while Citrus Heights Police Sergeant Seth Cimino has been helping with permit requirements, Newey said.

Organizers plan to hold a raffle to benefit a local charity. They originally had a local high school cheerleading squad in mind to receive the raffle proceeds, but Newey said that idea was no long feasible and he is looking for another local nonprofit.

If the event is successful, Newey said he hopes to hold similar car shows on a regular basis at the plaza.

Saturday’s event will be held March 26, from 4-8 p.m., at 7975 Auburn Blvd. More details are posted online at norcalcarculture.com.
