By Mike Hazlip– Kingswood Drive near Sunrise Boulevard was closed for much of the afternoon Wednesday as Citrus Heights police joined multiple agencies in an hours-long operation.
Citrus Heights Sgt. Seth Cimino told The Sentinel at the scene that the department was providing traffic control as other agencies conducted the operation. Vehicles from Stockton police and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department were at the scene along with unmarked vehicles and U.S. Marshals.
Cimino referred all questions to the Stockton Police Department. A phone call to the department’s public information officer was not immediately returned by press time Wednesday, but the department later posted Thursday that a 39-year-old man had been arrested during the operation in connection with an April 2 drive-by shooting that left a 9-year-old girl injured.
Stockton police said the suspect, David Price, was taken into custody by a U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and booked in the San Joaquin County Jail. Five handguns were also seized during the operation.
A heavy law enforcement presence could be seen in front of the Summerfield Place Apartments during the operation. Multiple male individuals were observed to be detained during the incident.
The operation began about noon, according to Cimino. Authorities reopened Kingswood Drive just before 5 p.m.
A mixer planned nearby for the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce was cancelled because of the police activity, according to a release from the chamber. The mixer was scheduled to be held at RCMI Executive Suites on Kingswood Drive.
