Rocky’s 7440 Club was hit with a 30 day suspension by the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), according to an Aug. 16 press release.
Sales of alcohol at the club are immediately suspended, the release said. The state opened an investigation at the club, located at 7440 Auburn Blvd., after receiving multiple complaints from the community and Citrus Heights Police Department, ABC said.
“For over a year, the Citrus Heights Police Department responded numerous times to address reports of DUI, public intoxication, fights, battery, theft, and assault with a firearm at Rocky’s 7440 Club. ABC found that Rocky’s was operating as a disorderly premises,” ABC said.
Rocky’s 7440 operates from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day and boasts a large half-acre outdoor seating area, according to the club’s website. A phone call to the club Wednesday morning went to a full voicemail box.
The club’s dress code prohibits athletic apparel, saggy clothes, sweatsuits, grills and oversized chains, gang club affiliation tattoos, and oversized shirts and pants, according to the website.
The suspension comes as part of a settlement with the club’s owner that also includes new policies to ensure public safety. After the suspension is lifted, the club will be required to restrict outdoor service of alcohol, limit the hours they are open, and provide two uniformed security guards at the club during live entertainment events, according to ABC.
The club’s liquor license can be permanently revoked if violations continue to occur once alcohol sales resume, according to the release.
The Sentinel has previously reported two shootings near the club that occurred on two consecutive weekends in May of 2021. Police at the time said the incidents were not related, but both occurred soon after closing time at the club.
Police arrested 36-year-old Markel Louis in connection with one shooting, and validated gang member Camilo Saenz in connection with the other shooting. The Sacramento Bee reports Saenz remains in custody at Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center.
