By Mike Hazlip— Citrus Heights police officers responded to a reported shooting near FoodMaxx early Monday morning, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
Police said no one was injured in the incident, according to a statement posted by the department on social media.
“Our officers remain in the area of Crux Ave for a shooting investigation. Nobody is believed to have been injured. Minimal traffic impact for the area. Our investigation is ongoing,” the statement said.
Around 11:15 a.m., authorities released a second statement saying the incident had come to a “peaceful resolution.”
Officers arrested one individual at about 7 a.m. and another individual was arrested at about 7:30 a.m., according to an unidentified employee who works nearby. Deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department were also present earlier that morning, the employee said.
A police SWAT team was observed outside a residence on the 6900 block of Crux Drive with an armored vehicle known as an MRAP or Mine Resistant Armor-Protected vehicle, and several patrol vehicles blocking the street.
Officers made repeated announcements using a loud speaker from the armored vehicle ordering all occupants of the home to come out one at a time.
Crux Drive was closed to traffic, and some delivery drivers were unable to access the back of the shopping center. A FoodMaxx employee positioned palettes behind the center to prevent traffic from attempting to drive around the police barricade. Another delivery driver also positioned his truck to block the area near the shopping center.
In a subsequent news release, police said dispatch had received a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 26 reporting shots fired on Crux Drive. Responding officers set up a perimeter around a home believed to be where the gun shots were heard.
Suspects arrested were Citrus Heights resident Aaron Bucher, 31, North Highlands resident Leroy Vonbehren, 21, and 28-year-old Anthony Gomez of Sacramento. Charges include weapons, drugs and domestic violence.
Police said a SWAT team was deployed to enter the residence “and ensure there were no additional occupants inside the home.” A nearby Montessori school was advised by police to close for the day.
No injuries were reported during the incident, but an investigation is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information to contact the Police Department at (916) 727-5500.
