Updated 8:42 a.m., Dec. 10th–
By Mike Hazlip— A heavy police presence and circling helicopter could be seen Friday night near Costco in the area of Winlock Avenue and Westchester Way, as police searched for a suspect in a residential neighborhood.

Streets in the area were blocked to traffic as police established a perimeter around a residence along Westchester Way. Officers from the Citrus Heights Police Department and Sacramento Police were coordinating the search.

Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Janet Schaefer told The Sentinel in a phone call around 9 p.m. Friday that the situation came to a peaceful resolution, without the use of force. The suspect, an adult male, surrendered to authorities.

She said the Police Department’s SWAT team and crisis negotiators worked to bring the situation to a positive conclusion, saying: “They are really good at what they do.” Schaefer confirmed the suspect was wanted by Sacramento police and referred all further questions to that agency.

CBS 13 reported the suspect fled from a Sacramento Police Department patrol car just after 3 p.m., prompting a pursuit. Two illegally possessed guns were recovered, according to the news outlet.

Nearby resident Gloria Love said she has never seen this type of incident in the 40 years she has lived in the typically quiet neighborhood.
