CHWD releases new video highlighting record-breaking local pumpkin

Sentinel staff report–
“Thanks to water, there’s a new record.” That’s the message in a new 70-second video created by the Citrus Heights Water District.

The video features Ronald Root and Nick Kennedy, next to the behemoth 2,497-pound pumpkin that won a state record earlier this year. The pumpkin was grown in Citrus Heights, and the pair of growers say it grew an average of 10 pounds per day, with a peak of up to 66 pounds per day recorded.

“This was one of the outcomes of using Citrus Heights water,” Root is shown saying in the video. “Hopefully we grow one bigger next year.”

The video concludes with Root saying: “We’re gonna go for the world record next year. I think we have a good chance.”
