A distracted driver was reportedly the cause of a power outage and street closure on Old Auburn Road on Monday, police said.
Old Auburn Road was closed between Mariposa Avenue and Sylvan Corners just after 3 p.m. on Dec. 18 after a truck collided with a SMUD power pole near Leonard Avenue, Sgt. Joseph Aguilar told The Sentinel in an email statement Tuesday.
“The impact sheared the power pole in half, sending high-voltage wires crashing onto the roadway,” Aguilar said.
Power was disrupted while repairs were made and Citrus Heights Police closed the roadway. A city street sign was also damaged in the collision, police said.
Aguilar said responding officers did not find signs of intoxication and the driver did not appear to be under the influence of any substances. Aguilar said the driver reportedly “diverted his attention from the road,” before the impact.
