Citrus Heights residents on Friday reported seeing a column of smoke near Dewey Drive and Lincoln Oaks Drive as emergency crews blocked off streets in the area due to a home fire.

Metro Fire Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn said no one was injured in the fire, but several pets in the home were found deceased. The residence was home to one occupant who was displaced, Wilbourn said. First responders saved two dogs, he said.

An update posted on Metro Fire’s Twitter account said the deceased pets were a dog, cat and two birds.

Crews were called to the scene at about 3:30 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 19 and found “heavy smoke” and “heavy flames” coming from the eves and an addition built at the side of the house, Wilbourn said. The cause is under investigation.

Lincoln Oaks Drive was blocked by Metro Fire vehicles and authorities closed northbound Dewey while they worked to extinguish the fire.

Lincoln Oaks Drive is just south of the Citrus Heights city limit that crosses Dewey Drive near Connemara Circle.
