Citrus Heights PD to deploy extra patrols during Super Bowl Weekend

Sentinel staff report–
In advance of Super Bowl LVIII, the Citrus Heights Police Department said it has launched a safety initiative to curb impaired driving — urging football fans to avoid driving under the influence. The “Go Safely” campaign encourages party-goers to arrange for sober transportation in advance of game day festivities.

This Super Bowl Weekend, on Feb. 10-11, police said Citrus Heights residents will see an increased police presence, with additional officers patrolling the streets, on the lookout for signs of alcohol or drug impairment among drivers.

“Let’s keep our Super Bowl celebrations safe and memorable for the right reasons,” said Police Sgt. Kane Kissam, in a Feb. 8 news release. ” Planning for a sober ride home should be part of everyone’s game plan.”

Kissam said marijuana, prescription drugs, and some over-the-counter medications can also impair driving abilities, and be subject to a DUI violation.

The initiative is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
