Citrus Heights issues annual holidaymoratorium on road construction

By Sara Beth Williams–
With the holiday season approaching, Citrus Heights is preparing to implement its annual holiday moratoriums on road construction to help reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians.

Beginning Friday, Nov. 21, at 5 p.m., construction and utility work will be restricted on major arterial streets throughout the city, according to an announcement on the city’s website. The moratorium will remain in place through Monday, Jan. 5, at 8 a.m., ensuring roadways remain clear during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays.

The restriction applies to all construction activity, utility work, and transportation permits for oversize loads on the following main roads:

  • Greenback Lane
  • Sunrise Boulevard
  • Auburn Boulevard
  • Madison Avenue
  • Sylvan Road
  • Fair Oaks Boulevard
  • San Juan Avenue
  • Old Auburn Road
  • Antelope Road
  • Dewey Drive
  • Van Maren Lane

In addition, construction and utility work on residential and collector streets will also be paused during the weeks before and after Christmas. This secondary moratorium will go into effect at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, and remain in place through 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 5. Only emergency work will be permitted during these periods.

The city’s General Services Department says the annual moratoriums are designed to minimize roadway disruptions, allowing residents and visitors to travel safely and efficiently during one of the busiest times of the year.
