Two more stores vacated the mall last month, according to a neighboring shop owner inside Sunrise Mall.

M&M Couture, a formal wear shop, along with Aria Furniture, a furniture shop nearby, both left their spaces at the end of October, according to the owner of Perfumes Luxe.

A handwritten sign on the front of M&M Couture states that the store has moved to Folsom Premium Outlets, at 13000 Folsom Blvd., #603. The interior of the store appears vacant, cleared of all merchandise.

The stores join a host of others that have left in 2025 alone, including Macy’s Men’s and Women’s and Hot Topic, which closed in March; Spencer’s, which closed in April; and Mark’s Hallmark, which closed in July. Most independent businesses have remained amid the mass national retail closures, except for Masterboy’s Streetwear, which also closed in the spring.

Less than twenty businesses remain inside Sunrise Mall and constantly combat rumors of demolition and closure, according to two business owners. Perfumes Luxe owner Kevin Cadinha said this holiday season will be a “make or break” season, but that for now he remains open and is in a “wait and see” holding pattern.

Cadinha also said being a small business owner is more difficult because they’re not able to put “open” signs or banners out in the front of the mall, like larger national chains, such as JCPenny, have been, because they are either stolen or otherwise taken down. Cadinha said he would like the business district to help bring more attention to the remaining small businesses inside the mall.

JCPenney is still open and operational as the only major anchor store left inside the mall and has placed flags and banners around the property notifying customers that they are still open.
