From housing and dining to infrastructure upgrades, here’s a look at the projects that will shape Citrus Heights in the year ahead.
Dutch Bros. Work is progressing at a future Dutch Bros drive-thru site along Auburn Boulevard, where fresh paint and exterior upgrades signal forward momentum. A representative from RC Pacific Construction Inc, the contractor for the project, said his company will wrap up on work in the third week in January and he expects the coffee shop should be ready to open within the next couple of months.

Grocery Outlet: The long-vacant former Rite Aid building at 5409 Sunrise Blvd. has been undergoing renovation to become a Grocery Outlet. Construction crews say the project is moving ahead, with a late spring 2026 opening targeted, likely in May. Improvements include a refreshed façade, ADA upgrades, and other enhancements to better serve local shoppers.

Former Teriyaki Land: The property once occupied by Teriyaki Land is on track to see new life in early 2026, with construction wrapping up within about a month. While the future tenant has yet to be publicly announced, the remodel and site work suggest something new is on the way for that corner of the neighborhood.

Citrus Heights Food Truck Plaza: A long-vacant corner at Auburn Boulevard and Twin Oaks Avenue is under construction and will become a food truck plaza, allowing up to fifteen food trucks to park and sell food and drinks to customers for an extended period of time. The plaza is expected to open in the spring of 2026, according to comments made by City of Citrus Heights staff during the Dec. 10 City Council meeting.

Auburn Boulevard Complete Streets Project Phase 2: The second phase of a major capital works infrastructure project that began in July of 2024 is expected to wrap up in June 2026, according to city officials. To date, stoplights have been upgraded along the route, from just past Rusch Park to the northern city limits. A new stoplight has been added in front of the Citrus Grove shopping center, though it’s not been activated as of the publishing date of this article. Other updates so far have included new sidewalks and streetlamps.

FunCity: An adventure park is expected to open this new year in the Citrus Grove shopping center in the site of the former Big Lots. Construction team members say they hope to be ready in the next two months.

JuiceTime: A fruit juice shop is planning on opening in the first quarter of the new year in Sunrise Village, according to last reports from the property management company. The shop has installed signage on the facade of the building and interior furniture has been added as of Friday.
