7 Volunteer opportunities in Citrus Heights

If you’re looking for places to give back to the community, we’ve compiled a list of organizations with volunteer opportunities where residents can get involved this year in the city.

Winter Sanctuary:  Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance Resource team is looking for volunteers to help out with their Winter Shelter program. The annual winter shelter program is run solely on volunteers and provides shelter for unhoused individuals during January and February at various local churches. Sunrise Christian Food Ministry: The food closet offers volunteer shifts focused on food distribution and warehouse support. Volunteers help sort, pack, and distribute food to individuals and families in need throughout the community. Available shifts for volunteering can be found on the Hands On Sacramento website.

Citrus Heights Police Department: The local police department provides several community volunteer opportunities, including the Police Volunteer Program and support roles for community events and outreach efforts. Volunteers assist with non-enforcement tasks, helping strengthen relationships between residents and the police department. An application is required. River City Waterway Alliance: The regional alliance is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to keeping local waterways clean and healthy. Volunteers can participate in river and creek cleanups, habitat restoration projects, and environmental education efforts throughout the Sacramento region and have several Arcade Creek Cleanup days per year in Citrus Heights.

City of Citrus Heights: Chip in Days: The City of Citrus Heights plans several Chip-in Days throughout the year, where volunteers come to help beautify city properties. The first chip-in day of the year is scheduled for April 22 and another will be held in October. Volunteers usually assist with spreading bark, and planting plants. Chip-in Days typically begin at 8:30 a.m. For more information, visit the city’s website.

Rotary Club of Citrus Heights: The Rotary Club is a service organization, that hosts different fundraisers throughout the year, and the money raised goes back into the local community. Funding is spent on local projects through the Citrus Heights Rotary Foundation. For more information or to find out how to get involved, visit CHRotary.org.

Kiwanis Club of Citrus Heights:  The Kiwanis Club of Citrus Heights actively volunteers at many local and regional events, hosts an annual Easter Egg hunt each Easter season, and operates a student-oriented Key Club at Mesa Verde High School.

Students interested in joining should contact Mesa Verde High School. Adults can join a meeting anytime to find out more information on volunteering and community activities. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Round Table Pizza, located at 7700 Sunrise Blvd., #1100.
