Citrus Heights Arts is asking the community at large to help select the design for a new mural planned for City Hall. The mural will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and is part of a federal ‘America250′ initiative encouraging municipalities to celebrate the United States’ anniversary through creative arts.
The nonprofit announced Friday that community voting is now underway for several mural concepts. According to the organization, only Citrus Heights residents and business owners are eligible to vote, and submissions are limited to one vote per person. Voting closes May 29. Vote here.
Mural images shown are conceptual digital renderings created for visualization purposes, the organization said. Final painted murals may vary in colors, details, and composition but will strive to remain true to the initial conceptual design.
Citrus Heights Arts also states that, while not all renderings have the American flag as part of their design, the final mural installation will include an American flag element.
Citrus Heights Arts, a local nonprofit organization, has partnered with the city to bring the mural to life on the wall of Citrus Heights City Hall. The Citrus Heights City Council approved the project on May 13 and agreed to provide $6,000 in funding from Community Support Grant funding.
City officials said the mural project is intended to encourage community engagement while creating a lasting public artwork that reflects Citrus Heights’ past, present, and future. The selected mural concept will be painted at City Hall following the conclusion of community voting and final preparations.
The nonprofit’s goal is to complete the mural before the city’s annual Stars and Stripes patriotic celebration scheduled for June 27.
The America250 initiative is a nationwide commemoration marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Communities across the country are planning local projects, events, and public art installations ahead of the 2026 anniversary celebration.
Community members can cast their vote through the online form available here.
