A men’s clothing store at Sunrise Mall has scaled back its hours to evenings only, according to employees The Sentinel spoke with both Thursday and in September.
At the end of September, The Sentinel spoke with one staff member who said he was a friend of the store owner. At the time of the interview he was trying to ask several teens on scooters to leave the corridor. He explained that the store gets limited foot traffic, and so the business had decided to shift its hours. However, no specific hours of operation were provided at the time.
Later, a handwritten sign appeared on the storefront, indicating its hours were now from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Upon multiple visits to Sunrise Mall within that timeframe, on various days of the week, The Sentinel has observed the store to be closed. Over the last month, some inventory appeared to have been removed from the store, but not all.
The store was open in the afternoon on Thursday. A staff member said the store’s hours are 2 to 6 p.m. but couldn’t confirm whether this was every day or only certain days of the week. Other business owners in the mall said the store is open on weekends, and only sometimes during the week.
Tops Men’s Fashion remains among one of five businesses still open. Staff at Tops Men’s Fashion said the store is expected to still remain at least through Christmas.
Other stores that remain open include Kay Jewelers, JCPenney, Royal Stage Theater, and Perfumes Luxe.
What’s next for Sunrise Mall?
In mid-March 2026, the Citrus Heights City Council approved an historic Economic Development and Participation Agreement with The Mettle Shop, in anticipation of building a major sports complex on the site of the former Macy’s Men’s.
As of Oct. 29, plans for the redevelopment of Sunrise Mall with Tallen Capital Partners appear to be on track according to a social media post from Capital Rivers Commercial who gave a brief update from the ICSC local Sacramento 2026 trade conference.
Tallen Capital Partners LLC is in the process of purchasing the majority of the mall property from Namdar Realty Group, Tallon’s CEO says.
The proposed Sunrise Sports Complex will include two NHL-size sheets of ice, and two fields of turf, along with a 4,000-seat arena, and potential for also turning one of the fields of turf into an open concert area.
The sports venue is designed to be a catalyst to attract more mixed-use development on the rest of the property, the city says. The Mettle Shop and the city hope to begin development in 2027 pending approval of official site plans by the Citrus Heights City Council.
In April 2026, minority Sunrise Mall owner Ethan Conrad Properties secured a deal with Slick City Action Park who signed a lease for the former Sears building at 6041 Sunrise Blvd. Demolition has begun in at least part of the Sears building.
In the beginning of June, Arcade Monsters finalized its purchase of Sunrise Rollerland, which sits directly behind Sunrise Mall. The former iconic roller rink business was sold as both building and business together when the long-time owners chose to retire.
Arcade Monsters has demoed the inside of the former roller rink, and has not responded to multiple requests for comment regarding updates on remodeling or on any opening date.
