An Asian restaurant in Citrus Heights was forced to close temporarily while they repair damage following an accidental collision through their front door. The eatery plans to reopen again next week.
Friday afternoon, a vehicle crashed through the front of Pearl House, a small Asian restaurant in Citrus Heights, located in a shopping center at Greenback Lane and Auburn Boulevard. No injuries were reported.
Restaurant management said Saturday they hope to open early next week but have to spend this weekend cleaning up debris. Management said the driver damaged the front door, a fan, and a front booth.
The incident was “very scary,” they said, adding that there was “a lot of mess” left from the collision.
Citrus Heights Police say a 78-year-old female driver accidentally crashed into the front of the Asian restaurant near Grocery Outlet Friday afternoon around 1 p.m. The driver reported that she thought she was pressing on the brake, but accidentally pressed on the accelerator. Police say she was not taken to the hospital.
“We were very lucky no one was hurt,” management said, adding there were no customers seated in the area where the car crashed through.
A dollar amount in damages was not immediately available from Citrus Heights Police or the restaurant staff. Management said Saturday they were still waiting for insurance estimators to come by.
Pearl House is known as a long-standing, family-owned Chinese restaurant in Citrus Heights, and serves neighborhood-style Mandarin and Cantonese comfort food, Google reviews say. The restaurant fully anticipates reopening early next week.
Another very similar incident occurred at the same eatery in June, both the restaurant and Citrus Heights Police confirmed. Police said of the previous incident, a 43-year-old female driver also accidentally crashed into the front of the restaurant.
Pearl House is located at 6053 Greenback Ln. and is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
