Police activity near Greenback Lane led to a brief shelter-in-place Monday afternoon at San Juan High School, after officers received reports of gunshot allegedly fired inside a nearby tattoo parlor.

According to Sgt. Carrie Foot with the Citrus Heights Police Department, officers were dispatched after witnesses reported that a customer had entered a tattoo shop and allegedly fired a shot. After clearing the interior, officers interviewed witnesses at the scene but were unable to identify a suspect. No firearm was recovered, and no injuries were reported.

As a precaution, San Juan High School was asked to shelter in place around 2:30 p.m., according to the district’s website. The San Juan Unified School District confirmed the action in a statement to The Sentinel.

“San Juan High School was placed in a precautionary shelter-in-place at the direction of the Citrus Heights Police Department while they responded to a safety situation in the surrounding area,” said district Director of Communication Raj Rai. “The precautionary shelter-in-place lasted approximately 20 minutes, after which the school resumed normal activities,” Rai added.

During the incident, westbound Greenback Lane was temporarily shut down and pedestrians were advised to avoid the area, according to police radio transmissions.
