A new Korean barbeque and sushi restaurant opened this week on Sunrise Boulevard.
The new restaurant, called Must Be Cow, offers Korean barbeque dishes and all-you-can-eat sushi, and includes over 40 tables equipped with grilling stations, a sushi bar, and a bar to serve beer and wine.
Adjacent to a now-vacant parcel which once held Marie Callender’s, a “Now Open” banner hangs across the front of the former Boston Pizza building and another open sign hangs in the window. Must Be Cow opens at 11 a.m. every day and closes at 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Reviews on Yelp beginning on Nov. 20 have been favorable, saying the restaurant has friendly staff, fast service, a “cool ambiance,” and “super tasty” food.
Restaurant owner Duan said in a previous interview that he landed on opening a restaurant in Citrus Heights after he had been searching for a place in Sacramento County and felt like the area was “missing some Asian food.”
Signage for the restaurant can be seen on the front facade of the building in two different locations, with a circular logo sporting a cow holding sushi with a pair of chopsticks and the restaurant name, “Must Be Cow, Korean BBQ & Sushi” affixed to the center of the building. Lettering of the restaurant’s name was also installed on the southern side of the front of the building.
Duan is also a partner in Bay Area-based Japanese fusion restaurant chain Sizzling Lunch.
The restaurant was once the location of the Peppermill Restaurant and Lounge, a Logan’s Roadhouse, before becoming Boston’s Pizza Sports Bar and Grill, which closed in 2023.
Must Be Cow is located at 5511 Sunrise Blvd.
