Citrus Heights to discuss food truck regulations in upcoming City Council meeting

By Sara Beth Williams–
The City of Citrus Heights plans to discuss current regulations during the upcoming City Council meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 10, following an uptick in interest from mobile food vendors seeking to operate in the city, according to officials.

In a notice sent to restaurant owners, food truck operators, commercial kitchen users, and other interested parties last week, the city said it has received a growing number of requests from food truck operators. City officials acknowledged that the increased interest has raised concerns among some brick-and-mortar restaurants.

During the Dec. 10 meeting, city staff plan to outline the city’s existing rules for food trucks, give an overview of how other jurisdictions manage mobile vendors, and present potential options for the City Council to consider. City leaders emphasized that no regulatory changes will be made that night. If the council later determines that updates to the city’s regulations are needed, any proposed changes will need to be brought forth to the City Council at a later meeting for review and approval.

Residents, restaurant owners, and food truck operators are encouraged to attend the meeting and share comments with the council. Those unable to attend in person can watch the meeting live on the city’s YouTube channel or view the replay the following day. Public comments may be made in person or sent online, or by email by 4 p.m. on Dec. 10. To find out more about how to submit public comment, visit the city’s website.

The next Citrus Heights City Council meeting is scheduled for Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at Citrus Heights City Hall, located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive.
