Woman dies after early morning solo vehicle collision with pole

By Sara Beth Williams–
A woman was killed early Sunday morning after her SUV struck a utility pole near the intersection of Greenback Lane and Dewey Drive, according to the Citrus Heights Police Department.

Authorities said officers received an automated crash alert just before 2 a.m. on Jan. 18, indicating a solo-vehicle collision in the area. When officers arrived, they found a single SUV that had collided with a utility pole. The adult female driver was unresponsive.

Officers immediately began lifesaving measures until Sacramento Metro Fire personnel arrived and transported the driver to a local hospital. Despite those efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Eastbound lanes of Greenback Lane between Dewey Drive and Hilltree Avenue were closed for two and a half hours during the night as investigators worked at the scene.

After investigating, preliminary information indicates alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, but police said the investigation is still ongoing.

The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information related to events leading up to the crash is encouraged to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727-5500.

Police would also like to remind rivers that alcohol, fog, and reduced visibility significantly increase crash risk, and are urging motorists to slow down, increase following distance, use low-beam headlights in foggy conditions, and never drive impaired.
