Candidates on both sides of the political aisle are running for State Assembly District 7 this year, with current incumbent Josh Hoover having confirmed he is running for reelection.
The Sacramento County office of the Secretary of State lists three confirmed candidates who have filed to run for Assembly, representing District 7, including Amy L Slavensky, Sanaz Motamedi, and Josh Hoover.
Hoover is running as a Republican and has been elected to the State Assembly twice, most recently defeating local candidate Vice Mayor Porsche Middelton in the 2024 primary elections by a narrow margin. Middelton ran as a Democrat.
Prior to becoming an assemblyman, Hoover served on the Folsom Cordova Unified School District school board. Hoover is married with three children. Hoover has a bachelor’s in political science and public policy, and a master’s in public administration. Hoover lives in Folsom and is running as a Republican.
Motamedi is running as an American Independent, and is a Sacramento local, who is passionate about her community, the environment and the animals, according to her online bio. Motamedi is a first-generation American and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Occupational Health. Her priorities include, protecting communities, supporting the working class, and creating a sustainable, thriving environment for future generations.
Slavensky is running as a Democrat and was born and raised in the Fair Oaks and Carmichael communities according to her online biography. Slavensky is a mom of five adult children, wife, community member, volunteer, and grandmother to three grandchildren.
Per her online, bio, Slavensky’s priorities include expanding access to social services, women’s rights, and increasing resources for public schools, according to her bio. Slavensky also has 40 plus years working in education in various capacities.
The 7th Assembly District in Sacramento County includes the cities of Citrus Heights, Folsom, and Rancho Cordova and the unincorporated communities of Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Foothill Farms, Gold River, Mather, McClellan Park, North Highlands, Orangevale, and Rosemont
The California state primary election is scheduled to take place on June 2, 2026. County elections offices will begin mailing ballots by May 4 and ballot drop-off locations are expected to open beginning May 5.
