Local businesses in Citrus Heights as well as in Sacramento and Placer counties are being encouraged to weigh in on a long-range transportation planning effort examining how people, goods and employees move between Sacramento and Placer County.
The Placer County Transportation Planning Agency is seeking public input as it updates the Placer-Sacramento Gateway Plan, a regional study examining travel patterns and transportation needs along a 40-mile corridor within the two areas.
The corridor includes portions of Interstate 80, State Route 65 and Business 80 and passes through communities including Citrus Heights, Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Loomis, Granite Bay and Sacramento. According to the Planning Agency, the corridor serves as a “critical connection” for commuters, freight movement, and more, and is home to roughly half of the greater Sacramento region’s jobs and one-third of its residents.
The agency is specifically encouraging local businesses to participate in the current survey, saying transportation decisions can directly affect how employees, customers and goods travel throughout the region.
The Transportation Planning Agency is conducting the update in partnership with the Sacramento Transportation Authority after receiving a $520,000 Sustainable Communities Competitive Planning grant from Caltrans. The total project cost is expected to be $650,000.
The updated plan is intended to address multimodal transportation, sustainability, equity and corridor performance, according to the agency’s website, and community input will help guide future transportation funding priorities.
The Gateway Plan Update will evaluate a wide range of multimodal transportation elements including:
- Congestion relief and operational improvements
- Transit enhancements and accessibility
- Bicycle and pedestrian connectivity
- Freight mobility and goods movement
- Safety improvements using Safe System principles
- Sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction strategies
- Equity and accessibility for under-resourced communities
- Infrastructure preservation and resiliency
- First-mile/last-mile transportation connections
The draft plan is available for public review from Monday, Sept. 14 to Friday, Sept. 25. The current project schedule calls for the updated plan to be completed in October.
