Citrus Heights police responded to a report of an attempted residential break-in shortly after midnight on Thursday, detaining three individuals for questioning before releasing them.
In public posts on social media, a resident said the individuals were found in her fully gated yard, where her husband held two of them at gunpoint until police arrived.
Citrus Heights Police Lt. Michael Wells told The Sentinel in an email statement on Thursday afternoon that police determined no crime had occurred, and the individuals were released.
“During the investigation [officers] determined the subjects were not attempting to break in and were at the wrong residence looking for an acquaintance,” the lieutenant said.
