Citrus Heights residents will soon be able to dine at a new Applebee's restaurant on Auburn Boulevard, located on one of the long-empty pads in front of Costco and Walmart. Popular Chicago-style pizzeria closes Citrus Heights location

Updated Sept. 24, 4:18 p.m.-- Diners expecting to grab a slice at Linda's Pizzeria on Greenback Lane this month found themselves met with a closed door and taped-off parking lot, after the restaurant reported leasing issues led to the location's recent closure. “It's with great sadness that Linda's Pizzeria has to report we have lost our lease negotiations and will be closing this location," a notice taped on the side glass door reads, announcing the restaurant's final day of August 30, 2015. "We've had a wonderful 5 years in Citrus Heights and you have been a pleasure to serve.” The establishment received an overall 4-out-of-5 star rating from 240 reviewers on Yelp, and a 7.7-out-of-10 user rating on Foursquare. Many reviewers raved about the Chicago-style pizza, while others gave a 1 or 2-star rating for complaints about taste or poor service from a waitress.

New Bubba’s car wash opens in Citrus Heights on Greenback Ln

A new Citrus Heights car wash opened up last week on Greenback Lane near San Juan Avenue, featuring a three-minute "express tunnel" and a water recycling system to limit water waste. According to Bubba's Car Wash Manager Tom Tilford, the new "flex serve" facility focuses on offering a quick wash along with some full-service options like hand drying and vacuuming -- and potential for more services down the road as well. The new 1.29-acre lot on Greenback Lane offers a bit more room than currently available on Bubba's smaller Madison Avenue location, according to Tilford, who added that the Citrus Heights spot offers nearly double the number of vacuuming stalls...

Citrus Heights seeks to attract craft breweries; drops permit req

Following the growing popularity of craft beer in the region, the City of Citrus Heights is seeking to attract brew pubs to its commercial areas by amending zoning codes and removing a previously required $5,400 regulatory permit for small breweries. “Brew pubs are the most popular trend to introduce locally brewed beer to a community,” said Citrus Heights Associate Planner Alison Bermudez in a press release issued by the City this month. “We wanted to encourage new and expanding breweries to make Citrus Heights their home and become part of our vibrant community.” Now only requiring a simple business license from the City in order to open up shop, a brew pub would previously have had to acquire a "use permit" from the City -- a three to five month-long process involving a public hearing, planning commission approval, and an approximate $5,400 permit cost...

New McDonald’s to relocate in Citrus Heights shopping center

The Fair Oaks McDonald's at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue is currently located just a few feet outside Citrus Heights city limits, but if things go as planned, the fast-food restaurant will soon be relocating across the street to the new Citrus Heights shopping center under development. McDonald's spokesperson Natalie Aronson said the decision was made due to the current facility outgrowing its capacity over the past 20 years, and the new location promises to feature a larger, modern design and site plan.” She said the new store will be almost 900 square feet larger than the existing facility. McDonald's will join Smart & Final and several other restaurants to make up the new shopping plaza under construction at the old Capital Nursery site on Sunrise Boulevard...

New Sunrise Blvd memory care center under construction

Construction began last week on a new 48-bed memory care facility on Sunrise Boulevard, with the completed project set to include a large courtyard and water features, along with protection for a 400-year-old oak tree identified on the property. Located just north of Highland Avenue near the FoodMaxx shopping center, the new "Courte at Sunrise Oaks" memory care center plans to provide round-the-clock care for those with dementia and Alzheimer’s, according to Citrus Heights Planning Commission documents. The 32,000-square-feet facility will include a common dining and gathering space, as well as a fully functional kitchen for preparing and serving meals. The 2.8-acre site project was approved by planning commissioners in January, with conditions including a requirement to install meandering sidewalks along Sunrise Boulevard and three new LED street lights...
