Garage fire torches 3 cars in Citrus Heights neighborhood

Sentinel staff report–
Nearly two dozen firefighters responded to the scene of a residential fire on the northern outskirts of Citrus Heights Saturday evening.

Metro Fire Battalion Chief Jason Vestal said the fire was largely contained to the garage of a single-story home on Acorn Creek Court, located off Old Auburn Road near Wachtel Way. He said no injuries were reported, but two vehicles parked in the garage and another on the driveway were described as likely being a “total loss.”

Fire crews responded to the scene around 6 p.m. on April 27, cutting a hole in the roof for ventilation and ripping off the garage door for access. Charred remains of two vehicles inside the garage could be seen from the street. A third vehicle in the driveway appeared to have major damage on the front end.

By 6:30 p.m., firefighters could be seen cleaning up the area, exiting the home carrying chainsaws, shovels and oxygen tanks, with the stench of smoke still in the air.

Vestal said firefighters were able to keep the garage fire from spreading to the attached home, with the living area of the home only incurring “minor smoke damage.” He said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
