The planned summer opening of Chando’s Tacos at Sylvan Corners in Citrus Heights is on hold as owner Lisandro “Chando” Madrigal instead moves forward with plans to open another Chando’s restaurant in El Dorado Hills.

“We have not set a date for the opening of our Citrus Heights location yet.  At the moment, we are focusing on the opening of our El Dorado Hills location,” said Fabian Harris, event coordinator for Chando’s Tacos in Sacramento.

Construction work on the Citrus Heights restaurant at 7084 Auburn Blvd., located in a high-traffic strip center, appears to have ceased. Current co-tenants in the plaza include Starbucks, Haya Sushi and Little Caesar’s Pizza.

Earlier this spring, Madrigal told the Sentinel he anticipated the buildout of the new Citrus Heights restaurant would be quick and that his contractor was on schedule for a late summer opening.

In March, the restaurant’s Facebook page said the Citrus Heights location would be opening “June-ish.”

Madrigal, who owns two Chando’s Tacos in Sacramento, another in West Sacramento, and also a location in Roseville, was unavailable for further comment.
