A 31-year-old man was arrested by police after a nine-hour standoff in a Citrus Heights neighborhood ended peacefully Saturday evening.
In a news release issued Saturday night, police said officers responded to the 7200 block of La Luna Court, near Sperry Drive and San Juan Avenue, regarding the report of a “verbal altercation between neighbors.” Authorities said the suspect, who was naked at the time, physically assaulted the other neighbor involved.
Police said the suspect, identified as Daniel Makarov, fled from officers and “barricaded himself inside his home.” Two firearms belonging to Makarov were found outside the home, causing a SWAT team to be deployed in case more firearms were inside.
Nearby residents were evacuated or asked to “shelter in place” during the incident. SWAT team members and other officers could be seen assembled outside during the incident, with announcements made over a loudspeaker asking Makarov to come outside.
During the standoff, police said a drone was deployed as well as “distraction devices.” Police said in a Tweet around 3:30 p.m. that residents may have heard a “boom,” which they said were “loud distraction devices” deployed by the SWAT team.
Around 6 p.m., police announced on Twitter that the incident had been peacefully resolved, with Makarov being taken into custody.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused for members of our community, and we appreciate your patience as we worked towards a peaceful outcome to this incident,” police said in Saturday’s news release. The department also thanked the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department and Metro Fire for their assistance.
