Sentinel staff report–
How prepared would you be in the case of a natural disaster? How much of a threat do you consider hazards like civil unrest, illegal fireworks, or water shortages in Citrus Heights?
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, which provides emergency services to Citrus Heights and surrounding areas, is asking these questions and more in a new risk assessment survey. The survey takes about five minutes to complete and includes several sections, including risks of natural and human caused disasters, fire risk, and accidents and injuries.
Metro Fire said it is working with FACETS Consulting, LLP to conduct the risk assessment. The agency said the assessment will help “identify risks in our communities and will aid in reducing their impact or occurrence.”
Specific questions include whether the respondent has been impacted by natural disasters like home or grass fires, high winds, localized flooding, heavy rains, earthquakes, water shortages, extreme heat, pandemic, climate change and other disasters while living in the area.
Respondents are also asked to rate the top five hazards in the area, including illegal fireworks, terrorism, civil unrest, and other human-caused or natural hazards. Several sliding scale ratings also allow respondents to rate how concerned they are about the possibility of a natural disaster in the area and how prepared they feel.
A question about “risk reduction methods” is also posed, with respondents asked to select from eight options, including prescribed burning, fire sprinklers, education and vegetation reduction. Respondents can also enter a custom answer.
The survey also asks if respondents have a fire escape plan in place, and provides an opportunity to request information about developing an escape plan.
