The Citrus Heights Police Department has launched an online reporting system for illegal fireworks, in advance of an anticipated increase in explosive activity around the Independence Day holiday.
“Our hope is this will be a quick & easy process for you & will keep our dispatch lines open during the holiday weekend,” the department said in a Facebook post announcing the reporting form this week.

The electronic form allows residents to report the location and type of firework activity they witness. Residents can select yes or no if reporting an aerial firework and space is provided for a description and suspect name.
A message on the page still encourages residents to call 9-1-1 to report a life threatening emergency, an immediate threat to a person, or urgent medical attention.
The location of the illegal firework activity and the address of the person reporting the activity are required fields on the form as well as the type of illegal firework.

A recent report by The Sentinel shows the city passed an urgency ordinance that allows police to cite landlords or “social hosts” at locations where illegal fireworks are being discharged. Police say it is difficult to identify and cite individuals directly responsible for discharging illegal fireworks.
