Citrus Heights woman appointed by Governor Newsom
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office last month announced the appointment of a 51-year-old woman from Citrus Heights to serve in a high-ranking position in the California Department of Industrial Relations. Jennifer Lim will serve as the Deputy Director of External Affairs, Communications and Outreach. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership and Human Resources from Chapman University and will earn compensation of $134,508. Out of 13 appointees announced March 29, nine are Democrats, one is a Republican, and Lim is one of two appointees who are registered as “no party preference.” (See announcement)
100-year-old Citrus Heights resident passes away
Helen (Billie) Menz passed away at age 100 on March 24, while at her home in Citrus Heights. According to an obituary published last week, she was born in the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento in 1921 and later graduated from McClatchy High School. She later lived in Chile, the Caribbean, Southern Africa and Rome, as part of her husband’s career with the United Nations. In retirement, she lived on a boat for 10 years and later moved back to the Sacramento area in 1996 where she was active with the Unitarian Universalist Church, a jazz society, and the Sacramento Ragtime Society. Mayor featured in ABC 10 interview
Citrus Heights Mayor Porsche Middleton took a drive last week in a Porsche sports car along with ABC 10’s Mark Allen for a talk about leadership and the city. During the three-minute video, Middleton said she enjoys speaking at local schools and showing kids that anything is possible. She also joked about presidential aspirations to help meet her mother’s dream of flying in Air Force One. (See video)
