Vehicle struck by gunfire in Citrus Heights neighborhood

By Mike Hazlip—
Citrus Heights police officers on Saturday night responded to reports of gunshots on Sycamore Drive, with arriving officers finding eight shell casings and one bullet hole in a parked vehicle.

Police Lt. Chad Morris said in an email Monday that the incident was reported just after 10 p.m. on April 9. At least eight rounds were fired from two different caliber firearms based on shell casings collected at the scene, the lieutenant said.

Officers collected evidence at the scene and detained several individuals believed to be related to the incident. No arrests were made, Morris said, adding the investigation is ongoing, leaving the possibility of future arrests.

Police do not think anyone was specifically targeted in the incident, and the vehicle appears to have been struck by a stray round, according to Morris.

Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots about the same time, according to posts on a social media crime watch page. Information from publicly available police channels indicated a suspect vehicle traveling northbound on Auburn Boulevard around the same time of the shooting.

The vehicle’s occupant was reportedly detained by Roseville Police at a 7-Eleven on Whyte Avenue near Auburn Boulevard. However, it does not appear that individual was connected to the shooting, Morris said.
