Sentinel staff report–
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has now released the names of both men who were killed in a pair of related shootings on April 18, identifying them both as residents of Citrus Heights.
Police say the first man, now identified as 30-year-old Jesus Mejia Cruz, was shot to death while playing soccer or volleyball at Fair Oaks Park on Monday. His death is listed at 6:58 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Nine minutes later, coroner’s records show that a second man was killed across the street from the park, on Madison Avenue just east of Ventana Place. Police believe the second man, identified as 41-year-old Jerzaine Trenado Orozco, is the person who killed Cruz and then fled across the street before being gunned down by another person.
Police have yet to release suspect information about who was involved in shooting Orozco, and a police lieutenant on Tuesday told The Sentinel that authorities could not release any further information without jeopardizing the investigation.
Due to the shootings happening along the border of Citrus Heights and Fair Oaks, Monday night’s shootings are being investigated separately. Citrus Heights police are handling the shooting along Madison Avenue and the Sheriff’s Department investigating the first shooting at Fair Oaks Park.
