By Mike Hazlip— Citrus Heights police responded to a fight involving a half-dozen individuals at an apartment complex on Auburn Boulevard Saturday night.
Lieutenant Chad Morris told The Sentinel the incident occurred around 10 p.m. at the Sierra Oaks Apartment complex at 7640 Auburn Blvd. and involved six to seven individuals. No weapons were seen, he said.
Officers arrested 39-year-old James Brooks for possession of a controlled substance and an outstanding arrest warrant from another county, Morris said.
Sacramento County jail records show Brooks’ bail is set at $5,000 for the controlled substance charge. However, records also show he is not eligible for bail based on the outstanding warrant stemming from a felony charge in Merced County.
Morris said an individual who reported the incident claimed it may have stemmed from a previous shooting, but he said police have no information regarding what incident that may have referred to.
Several shootings occurred within several blocks of the location. Two shootings occurred near the 7440 Club on Auburn Boulevard last year and a more recent shooting occurred nearby on Sycamore Drive last month, where officers found shell casings on the ground and one vehicle was struck by a bullet.
*Correction: the original version of this article incorrectly stated that two shootings “occurred at the 7440 Club.” This story has been updated to state that the shootings occurred near the club. Police also said at the time that both shootings involved assailants and victims who were “connected to” the club.
