Sentinel staff report–
The Fourth of July began with a bang outside the Citrus Heights Rite Aid building at Auburn Boulevard and Van Maren Lane, when a vehicle crashed into the side of the building.
Police Lt. Chad Morris said a call was received by dispatchers around 6 p.m. on July 4, with officers responding to the scene. The driver of the vehicle, 46-year-old Claire Watkins, was subsequently arrested for felony DUI. Two people inside the business sustained minor injuries, Morris said.
Photos from the scene shared on social media show a dark-colored SUV was involved in the collision, with 3-4 feet of the vehicle penetrating through the building. The entry spot was located directly below a “drive thru” sign, which points drivers to the other side of the building for a drive-thru pharmacy entrance.
The Rite Aid store at 6661 Auburn Blvd. was also the scene of another incident just over a month ago, when a burst water pipe caused the store to temporarily close.
