An intense, 90-second video was posted by Metro Fire on Wednesday, showing helmet camera footage of firefighters responding to an Aug. 23 apartment fire in Citrus Heights.
The footage shows crews with chainsaws cutting multiple ventilation holes in the roof of the five-unit complex, with flames leaping from the holes before being extinguished with fire hoses.
In an accompanying post, Metro Fire said the fire traveled through roof joists, spanning most of the roof. Crews extinguished the blaze from both inside the apartments and via the holes cut in the roof.
As of Wednesday, Metro Fire said the cause and origin of the fire were still under investigation. A request to the agency’s public information officer for an update on Saturday was not immediately responded to.
As previously reported, the fire occurred at an apartment building at 7524 Pratt Ave., just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Five families were displaced due to the fire.
