Sentinel staff report–
The Citrus Heights Police Department is actively seeking two suspects following a theft on Jan. 29 where three men allegedly stole several firearms from a business on Greenback Lane. The incident, reported just before 5 p.m., closely follows a similar crime in Rocklin, with suspects described similarly in both cases.
Authorities have identified the suspects still at large as 27-year-old Taron Carter and 28-year-old Rollkey McDaniel. Both men are currently on Sacramento County Post-Release Community Supervision (PRCS) Probation for significant offenses.
According to a news release on Tuesday, the theft prompted a swift response from police who identified three suspects, one of whom was subsequently arrested. Police said the business had “excellent video surveillance equipment that was extremely valuable in helping officers identify these suspects.”
The trio were reportedly located by sheriff’s deputies at a Howe Avenue apartment complex in Sacramento, where they were seen outside the vehicle they fled the gun store in.
One suspect, 33-year-old Joshua Butler, was arrested and is now facing multiple charges including burglary, grand theft, and firearm possession violations. Butler, who is also on probation for domestic violence, was detained at the Sacramento County Main Jail following a brief foot pursuit by Sacramento County Sheriff deputies.
Police said the trio entered the store during regular business hours, took two firearms, and then fled in a nearby vehicle. The store was not identified by name in Tuesday’s news release, but was described as being located on the 8000 block of Greenback Lane, which is where Sacramento Black Rifle operates a store.
Citrus Heights police have initiated a comprehensive investigation in partnership with Rocklin police detectives and the District Attorneys’ Offices of Sacramento and Placer Counties. The effort to locate Carter and McDaniel is ongoing, with the CHPD expressing gratitude towards the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the arrest.
Community members with information about the suspects or the crime are encouraged to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department Crime Tip Line at 916-727-5524 or the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP for anonymous tips. Information leading to the arrest of the remaining suspects could result in a cash reward.
