A sandwich shop in Greenback Square closed abruptly in April.
A Sentinel staff visit to 8053 Greenback Ln., which was once home to Togo’s, found the building vacant and dark, with a paper sign posted on the window indicating it was “Temporarily Closed.” The sign hanging in front of the abandoned shop still has Togo’s listed as a tenant.
A paper letter posted on the entrance to the former eatery titled “Acknowledgement of Abandonment of Premises” stated in part, “The undersigned hereby acknowledges that as of April 10, 2024, the tenant under that certain lease of real property dated March 5, 2023, has abandoned all of its leasehold interest in the subject commercial premises.” The document was signed by the landlord.
According to leasing information from CBRE Inc., Togo’s is still listed on the Greenback Square Site Plan. Customers on the business’s Yelp listing reported that the shop has closed.
Greenback Square is anchored by Starbucks and Sherwin Williams and also includes two new tenants that recently opened. AG Depots, an artificial grass store, opened on June 21, according to the store’s senior project manager, and The Cave Outlet opened on July 1.
Togo’s opened in 1971 in San Jose and began opening franchise locations in the late 1970s, according to the company’s website. Today, Togo’s has nearly 180 locations open or in development.
Two CBRE Inc. representatives referred The Sentinel to Vice President of Retail John Brecher for information specific to the property at 8053 Greenback Ln. Brecher did not respond to several requests for comment.
*Editor’s note: This article has been updated to reflect that the letter of Acknowledgement of Abandonment of Premises was signed by the landlord.
