Citrus Heights police detectives on Monday arrested a 49-year-old woman in connection with a homicide case from more than a decade ago.
Police announced in an Aug. 20 press release that detectives arrested 49-year-old Alejandra Aguilera-Ortega in connection with the 2013 death of 22-year-old Diego Lopez, who tragically passed away after receiving illegal silicone injections in the buttocks, which led to “fatal complications.”
According to police, an “extensive investigation” in 2013 revealed that Aguilera-Ortega was not a licensed medical practitioner at the time of administering the illegal injections and that she may have administered similar injections to others besides Lopez “for a fee.”
Police learned that Aguilera-Ortega had recently returned to Citrus Heights, where detectives located and arrested her at a local apartment complex.
According to the news release, Lopez was transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital on April 30, 2013, due to difficulty breathing and coughing up blood.
“The treating physician discovered that Lopez had received non-medical-grade silicone injections in the buttocks area, which led to multiple organ failures, cardiac arrest, and ultimately, death on May 7, 2013,” the release said.
Aguilera-Ortega was booked on charges of homicide and is being held without bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail.
