Sentinel staff report–
This week’s Letters to the Editor discuss road construction, and sidewalk safety.
Road safety and upgrades: While the city is planning to upgrade many streets and trails, there is no plan on upgrading and repairing the sidewalks. Many years ago, the city had programs titled ‘Walkability’. This was to give us the ability to talk and get exercise. Now the sidewalks have more potholes than the street. Sidewalks are rising up from tree roots and giving 1 to 2 inches rise to trip over. Or, sidewalks don’t exist. This is for those that want to walk. Those of us that are in wheelchairs – well forget it. As the population gets older, the streets/sidewalks get less friendly.

Auburn Blvd construction project: Auburn Blvd is turning out to be like Hwy. 50 in Sacramento. It’s only 1/2 way done? It seems like they’ve been working on that project for a while now and it’s only 1/2 way done? I haven’t heard anything regarding the completion of San Juan Ave. (The San Juan Freeway) The first phase turned out great, hopefully the 2nd phase will be started sometime soon.
