Man in camouflage arrested at Rusch Park

By Sara Beth Williams–
Citrus Heights Police officers responded in force to a report of a man in full camouflage making threatening statements toward children in the area. The individual was contacted by officers at Rusch Park Saturday evening, after witnesses reported concerning behavior.

According to Sergeant Ryan Smith with the Citrus Heights Police Department, callers reported that the subject was upset after claiming he and a friend had been shot at with an airsoft gun by kids.

Officers contacted the male suspect at Rusch Park. He was found to be in possession of a pair of scissors and attempted to pull away during contact, prompting officers to bring him to the ground in order to safely detain him.

The man was arrested on charges of obstruction and resisting officers. While initial reports suggested a threat to children, officers were later able to determine that the individual did not intend to carry out any harmful actions. He admitted to making angry statements “venting” in the heat of the moment but assured officers he had no plan to follow through with them.

Smith said the man was not arrested for making or carrying out any threats, but for resisting and obstructing a peace officer.

Smith emphasized the importance of taking all threats seriously, especially when they involve public safety and the well-being of children.

The man complained of pain, and was taken to the hospital before being taken to Sacramento County Jail, and no injuries were determined to be present, according to police.
