An older adult male was found dead Friday afternoon in the greenbelt near a local shopping center in Citrus Heights, police say.
Two to three callers reported an adult unresponsive near a walking trail in the greenbelt adjacent to the Applebee’s restaurant in the Costco shopping center Friday afternoon after 2 p.m. Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Eric Dias confirmed.
Officers arrived to find a male unresponsive and pronounced him deceased at the scene. The man was an unhoused individual, police confirmed.
Dias said the death has not been ruled as suspicious, and that the cause of death appears to be of natural causes.
Dias said anytime a death occurs in a public space, the situation is investigated quickly to rule out any potential harm toward the community.
In this case, the male adult was older and appeared to have died of natural causes within the last 24 hours, police said.
The deceased’s name is not released until the Sacramento Coroner’s office identifies next of kin.
