Homeless man who died near Citrus Heights shopping center identified

By Sara Beth Williams–
An unhoused man who died on April 24 has been identified as Daniel Gable according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

71-year-old Gable passed away from undetermined causes, the coroner’s office shows.

Gable was found dead Friday afternoon in the greenbelt near a local shopping center in Citrus Heights, police say.

Two to three callers reported an adult male, unresponsive, near a walking trail in the greenbelt adjacent to the Applebee’s restaurant in the Costco shopping center on April 24, after 2 p.m. Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Eric Dias confirmed.

Officers arrived to find a male unresponsive and pronounced him deceased at the scene. The man was an unhoused individual, police confirmed.

Dias said the death was not ruled as suspicious, and the cause of death appears to be of natural causes.

Dias emphasized anytime a death occurs in a public space, the situation is investigated quickly to rule out any potential harm toward the community.

In this case, the male adult was older and appeared to have died of natural causes within the last 24 hours, police said.
