A significant fire in an apartment complex in Citrus Heights drew a heavy response from police and emergency crews just after 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Several fire engines and police officers responded to an apartment complex on the corner of Auburn Boulevard and Antelope Road to reports of an outdoor fire on a balcony which had spread inside the initial unit of origin. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials say, but they added they do know it began outside and spread inside.

The fire spread laterally within multiple units and has impacted at least eight to ten units in the 12-unit wing of the apartment complex, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Captain Mark Nunez said Sunday morning, adding that crews are in the process of determining whether the rest of the units are impacted or if belongings can be salvaged.

Once the number of impacted units is confirmed, MetroFire will contact and coordinate with Red Cross to help house displaced victims of the fire.

Fire crews could be seen accessing the roof of an apartment building with an extension ladder. Power has been cut off to the entire building, Nunez said.  No injuries were reported.

Road closures remain in effect as of 12 p.m. Sunday as multiple emergency personnel cruisers, ambulances, and fire engines were seen blocking the far-right lane on northbound Auburn Boulevard as you approach Antelope Road, as well as the far-right lane of eastbound Antelope Road.
