Citrus Heights Police: Fourth of July fires destroy trees, fences

Citrus Heights Police responded to and assisted with at least nine reported fires on July 4, a law enforcement spokesperson said Tuesday, including a fire at a property on Old Auburn Road.

Over the holiday weekend several fires were reported by citizens and the police department through social media.

Citrus Heights Police radio traffic indicates police officers responded to multiple incidents of reported trees on fire. The Police Department posted a warning on social media, which included photos of a charred tree and fence.

“This photo is a reminder of how quickly fire danger can become real,” the department said on social media.

Other fires were reported by residents through social media to have occurred throughout the afternoon and evening hours, with one resident sharing photos of a tree having caught on fire after 10 p.m.

Sentinel staff witnessed fire consuming a tree and a fence at a property on Old Auburn Road between Linda Vista Drive and Mariposa Avenue on Saturday evening before dark. The incident resulted in temporarily traffic impacts on nearby streets. The fence and tree on the property were destroyed. See the video here.

Sacramento Metro Fire District incident logs show fires were reported on Sayonora Drive, and on Old Auburn Road, among other locations. There have been no arrests directly related to fires that occurred in the city, police say.
