Cause of death determined for man found unresponsive behind Sunrise Mall

Citrus Heights Police have determined the cause of death of an elderly man found unresponsive inside a vehicle behind Sunrise Mall on Thursday night to be suicide.

In a press release on Friday evening, authorities said police officers responded to 6041 Sunrise Mall to a report of an unresponsive individual inside of a parked vehicle.

Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, deceased, with a
gunshot wound to the chest. The Sacramento Metro Fire Department also responded, and pronounced the male dead at the scene. Citrus Heights Police detectives and Crime Scene Investigators quickly responded to the scene and began investigating.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, the manner of death has been determined to be suicide. At this time, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident,” police said in the press release.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, authorities said.
