The City of Citrus Heights says the Antelope Road resurfacing project has entered its final phase, with the final layer of pavement now complete and several finishing touches scheduled over the coming weeks.
According to the city, crews completed the final layer of pavement earlier this week. The new asphalt must cure for a minimum of two weeks before permanent thermoplastic striping can be installed.
City officials said permanent striping is anticipated during the second or third week of August, depending on contractor scheduling. In the meantime, temporary spray paint markings have been placed on the roadway to guide the future striping installation.
Several additional project elements also remain before the resurfacing work is considered complete.
Over the next two weeks, contractors will adjust manholes, valve covers and other utility access points so they are level with the new pavement surface.
Crews will also remove existing pavement markings from the Antelope Road overpass using high-pressure water blasting, which the city said is the appropriate method for removing striping from concrete bridge surfaces.
Once the pavement has fully cured, contractors will install permanent thermoplastic lane markings throughout the project area.
The final improvement will include decorative brick-pattern crosswalk treatments at the intersections of Antelope Road and Saybrook Drive, Zenith Drive and Lichen Drive. The city said the crosswalks are designed to match the corridor’s existing aesthetic and recent streetscape improvements completed along Auburn Boulevard and Sunrise Boulevard.
The Antelope Road resurfacing project is expected to be complete following installation of the striping and decorative crosswalks later in August, pending contractor scheduling.
