Man dies following collision in Citrus Heights

By Sara Beth Williams–
A man died after he was found unresponsive following a low-speed crash Tuesday in Citrus Heights, according to officials.

The Citrus Heights Police Department responded Tuesday evening to a crash just before 9 p.m. at Auburn Boulevard and Carriage Drive. Police added that the crash involved two vehicles with one rear-ending the other. Speeds were not a factor as the collision was a low-speed collision, police say.

Witnesses reported a heavy police presence in the area, with multiple police officers responding to the area, and multiple lanes blocked during the incident.

The driver of the vehicle that rear-ended the other was found to be unresponsive. Emergency personnel at the scene performed life-saving measures and the man was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Authorities say there may have been some medical emergency involving the driver who rear-ended the initial vehicle, due to the circumstances of the collision occurring at a low speed. DUI is also believed to not be a factor, police said.

Lane closures were in effect along Auburn Boulevard, with westbound lanes closed on Old Auburn Road just east of Sylvan Corners and westbound lanes closed along Auburn Boulevard. Turn lanes were also closed that turn westbound onto Auburn Boulevard.

Vehicles were towed from the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
